"Trees are Beings. We as humans can relate to them as friends, helpers, and teachers."
In the summer of 2018, I traveled into the northern mountains for a personal retreat and to take some classes. Upon arriving at my destination, my body needed some gentle stretching, and my soul was calling me into the Woods!
As I walked down a shady path, I was “called” to one of the giant trees of the forest. As I stood beside it, my hand on it’s bark, I began to move into some simple yoga stretches. The tree was a sturdy support and energy began to fill me as I moved through side bends, simple back bends, spine lengtheners, and balance poses. Inspiration dawned. I could share this practice with others! I started to draw simple pictures of poses with trees, and included simple instruction from my experience as a yoga teacher. I collected stories and poems about trees. I consulted artists, folklorists, and science people. I wrote “Yoga with Trees.”
