Goot Essa Autumn Dawn Apple Butter is an all-natural, home-made fruit butter made in the traditional manner. This unique apple butter is made with three different types of apples which are boiled down and combined with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and brown sugar. This is an old Esh family recipe, highly esteemed by the community. The combination of crisp apples and natural sweetness provide more of an apple flavor than is typical of commercial apple butters. The color is golden brown with a smooth, viscid texture. This apple butter pairs well with Der Weichen Gehl, Emanuel Vom Tal, Old German Weissa Kase, Der Vauden Swiss, and Der Alpen Kase. It is, of course, a traditional favorite on cottage cheese as well as on warm toast, muffins and biscuits in the mornings.
The three varieties of cider apples are purchased from local orchards and are made into apple butter by the Esh family. Historically, Amish families come together in the fall and the whole family participates in the boiling down of the apples and the canning of the apple butter. All Goot Essa condiments are produced in kitchens inspected and approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
